Grooming 101: A Healthy Coat in 15 Minutes a Week

You don't need a salon to keep your pet's coat healthy. 15 minutes a week beats a marathon session every month — and your pet will tolerate it far better.

Brush before you bathe

Always brush out tangles dry. Wet mats tighten into knots that can only be cut out. Use a slicker brush for medium coats, a pin brush for long hair.

Bath every 4–8 weeks (not more)

Over-bathing strips natural oils. Use a pet-specific shampoo — human pH is wrong for animal skin. Rinse twice; residue causes itching.

Nails monthly

If you hear click-click on hardwood floors, they're too long. Clip a tiny amount weekly rather than a big chunk monthly — less stress, no quicking.

Ears + teeth, weekly

Wipe ear flaps with a damp cotton pad. Brush teeth with pet-safe toothpaste 2–3 times a week. Dental disease is the most under-treated condition in pets.

Watch for red flags

Sudden shedding, hot spots, dandruff, or smelly ears are vet visits — not grooming problems.
